Overview

The Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) is a program that provides assistance for any type of educational pursuit for Veterans who elected the program and paid into it with contributions from your military pay. Your contributions are then matched by the government at a rate of $2 for every $1 you contributed.

Qualifications

If you first entered military service after January 1, 1977 and before June 30, 1985 and you began contributing to an account before April 1, 1987, with voluntary contributions of $25 to $2700, and you fulfilled your first period of obligated service, leaving the military with any discharge other than dishonorable, you are eligible for the VEAP Program. If you are still on active duty and you have at least three months of contributions available for use, you are eligible for this program.

How to Get Started

If you qualify for this program you need to complete VA Form 22-1990 to apply for your benefits. You need to send your application to the regional office covering the state in which you wish to study. If you are not on active duty, you will need to send your copy of your DD Form 214 Discharge papers with the application.
